Reverencing God-

Educating yourself in God’s Word before you vote

Pastor Jim Huthmaker

Can you imagine a president or congressman in any country that went to God asking, “God what should we do in this situation” before he went to anyone else? Do you know how that country would change? What if our leaders got up in the morning and asked “God what do you want from me today, what do you want me to do today, what do you want me to speak into this country today,” can you imagine where this country would be? It is the truth that our country is one nation under God; however we are getting farther and farther away from that.

We have got to select the candidate who is closest to the biblical standard of what God is saying and what God wants for our country. That is so important and we as Christians have to rise up and do that. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Same sex marriage is wrong. Abortion, it is wrong but God loves you, He has forgiven you. We are to hate the act/the behavior/the lifestyle and not the people. God loves us so much; however we can not continue in sin. God wants you to seek Him. He wants you to love Him. He wants to be your God. God will never give up on you even if you turn away. God loves you so much. He has a plan for your life.

We must pray and ask God to lead us to the right candidate. I will never tell you who to vote for, that’s not my position, no one should tell anyone who to vote for but I will say, if you or I vote for a man because he is white, you are wrong; if you vote for a man because he is black, you are wrong. These kinds of things are going on today and it is wrong. We should take a candidate and look and see what they are running their campaign on. We have to narrow it down - who’s the Godliest man. We have to educate ourselves. We are to look biblically at what is going on.

We need leaders to fear God. Psalm 55:15-19

“Fear” defined biblically is a reverence for God. Deuteronomy 6:13, Deuteronomy 10:20

Reverence for God is loving and respecting God. It is not a fear as in terror. It is not like the Wizard of Oz in which the tin man or scarecrow was walking and shaking in fear. It is not that type of fear. It is not a terror fear but a good fear in which there is reverence, respect and honor for God.

We live in a free country and when we don’t fear God; when we don’t revere God, we turn into moral decline. Leviticus 18:22-23, Leviticus 20:13

Fear is having a repentance heart. Having a change of heart means having a repentance heart. Matthew 3:1-2, Matthew 4:17

With a change of heart, you have to renew your mind and that is a form of repentance.

Proverbs 1:7

When we seek God first, we depart from and hate evil things. Proverbs 3:7, Proverbs 8:13

Hate means to despise, to totally do away with something, to get away from it. We have to understand the word hate. Sometimes when someone is doing something wrong, we start condemning the individual, we don’t want to do that. We want to hate evil but we want to love the individual, who may be caught up in these things.

God is a good God. It is by the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that we are here today and that we have what we have today. Before we can walk in the supernatural, we have to do the basic things like walking in love. God moves through us, He has to use us, we have to love, we have to share the love of God, that’s when things change.

Again, I will never tell you who to vote for; however we need men and women of God leading our country. We are a country founded upon God. We have to pray for our leaders. This is a major election. We have to get the right people in office. It is up to us to educate ourselves about who they are and to be led by God to vote for the right people. We have got to do the right thing. We have got to vote the right way. The only way this country can change is if we implement things for change, for real change.
