Ephesians - Who we are in Christ Part 1

Ephesians - Who we are in Christ Part 1

Pastor Jim Huthmaker

2 Timothy 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God. Profitable for doctrine (good teaching), reproof (reprimand, when things have to be straightened out), correction (for someone who gets off course).

All of Apostle Paul’s church letters all fall into doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness.

Ephesians 1:1

In Christ Jesus, this is a prepositional phase. There are 96 prepositional phases in the 6 chapters of Ephesians. These show our positions using such terms as “in Christ, in Him, in whom” and so forth.

The 6 chapters in Ephesians will continually show us our unique position as believers.

The book of Romans shows us where sin would take us and that the remedy for it is the Gospel (the Good News!)

God has already forgiven us. Jesus paid the last payment, He was the last sacrifice. Now all we have to do is receive the free gift of grace by believing through faith.

Grace - Romans 5:13, 6:1-4

In Corinthians it shows all the problems had to be reproved or straightened out Then in Galatians people were trying to go back under the law and it shows how that had to be corrected.

In Ephesians it shows our position - who we are in through Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:1-3

God has (past tense) blessed us. It is this desire and will for us to be blessed. He does not want us to live unhappy, unfruitful, miserable lives. The blessings are in heavenly realms which are far more important than earthly (natural) blessings.

John 1:16 says, And of this (Jesus) fullness we have all received, and grace for grace or one blessing after another.

Ephesians 1:4-6

He chose us in Him before the foundation (creation) of the world.

Romans 8:29-31

God predestined us to be conformed to the likeness of His son Jesus. God predestined us all but we have a free will to accept Him.

Ephesians 1:7-8

In Him (Jesus) we have redemption (deliverance, have been delivered) through His shed blood. The forgiveness of sins- The Greek word for forgiveness means loosing a person from that which binds him. Jesus has loosed us that which binds us!

Ephesians 2:8-9

It is by grace you have been saved, through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Ephesians 1:9-12

Verses 9 - The Greek word for mystery means something that could not be known by men except by divine revelation, but now has been revealed through Jesus and all that have ears may hear it.

Verses 10 - The truth of God are mysteries only to those who do not soften their hearts by seeking God with their whole hearts.

Jeremiah 29:13 says, “And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.

Ephesians 1:11-12

This inheritance is one of the blessings Paul spoke of in verse 3. It includes everything that belongs to Christ. We are joint with Him (Romans 8:17).

Verse 12 - We should in all things bring praise to this glory as a result of our actions, our motives should always be to glorify God.
