Ephesians - Who we are in Christ Part 5

Ephesians - Who we are in Christ Part 5

Pastor Jim Huthmaker

Ephesians 4:1-2

We should all walk worthy in what God has called us to do.

We should also be humbled, gentle and loving in that walk.

Lowliness - having a humble opinion of ourself.

Meekness - being kind and gentle.

Longsuffering - patient endurance.

Forbearing - to be patient or self-controlled when subject to annoyance or provoked.

Verse 3 – Make an effort to keep unity of the Spirit with peace.

Ephesians 4:4-6 - ONE body, hope, Lord, faith, baptism, God and Father. Father God and not Godfather.

When we allow Jesus to work in and through us as we become ONE with Him.

ONE Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Never be in disunity because we are all “one body” in Jesus Christ.

Verse 4:8 - “Led captivity captive” - Jesus set free from bondage the Old Testament saints who died and went to a place into the center of the earth called Sheol (Hebrews). In Hebrew this word was translated Hell. The ungodly also went to a part of Sheol. Jesus taught (Luke 16:19-31) that there was a great gulf fixed between the two Sheol = torment/Abraham’s bosom or paradise.

Old Testament saints were blessed that could not be in the presence of God because the atonement of Jesus had not yet been completed. So they were captives. Now Sheol is only Hell.

Verse 4:8 - and God gave gifts unto men. Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.

Verse 4:10 - Jesus descended to Sheol and ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of Father God.

Verse 4:11 - God gifted people with these callings and then gave these people to the body of Christ as gifts. These are not the only gifts (refer to 1 Corinthians 12:8)

Verse 4:12 - The contemporary English version says: “so His people would learn to serve and His body would grow strong.” Amplified version says: “His intention was the perfecting and full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people) (that they should do) the work of the ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church).

Believers are to be equipped to go out and reach the lost. This is what ministry is all about.

Verse 4:13 - Until all Christians sees and believers alike on the basic principles of the Christian faith.

Many spirit - filled Christians are ‘scattered” with their beliefs because of listening to “scattered” doctrine.

Verse 4:14 - Christians today must stand on biblical doctrine and not be tossed (moved) by every new fad that comes through Christian circles.
