1. Don’t be condemned 2) Surrender 3) Be teachable 4) Listen 5) Obey

Disclaimer:  I am in no way judging or condemning anyone for their physical cond.  These principles can be applied to any are of controlling the flesh.  Addiction, fornication, spending, cussing, abuse, anger, etc.

  1. Don’t be condemned.
    1.  Romans 8:1 There is now, therefore, NO condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Self-pity, self-condemnation is just pride in disguise.  Its all about “you” the focus is off God and on you.  Not good!   James 4:6 God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Condemnation is Not the will of God!

 God’s grace overcomes condemnation!

  1.    2 Cor. 12:9 My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.

He will be our strength.  Our “willpower” won’t cut it.  That is relying on our flesh again, not God.

In Him, we are made NEW!!

      c.      2 Cor. 5:17   Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature, the old things have passed away, behold new things have come.

*If you are trying to lose wgt, don’t focus on the mirror-we need to identify with the new man!! Say “I’m new!”  Do not be clothed in a garment of shame.  Shame attracts nothing good!

  1.  We must willingly surrender our area of flesh struggle to God.
    1. There is a real dichotomy b/t spirit and flesh.
      1. Matt. 26:41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.  **the enemy is always looking for a “hook”.
      2. Because the flesh is weak, every child of God needs supernatural empowerment! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!
    2. We do not need to correct our problem before coming to Him. Ex. Losing weight before going to the gymJ  He takes us just as we are.  We cannot hide our faults.

  1. We must recognize that we are HIS to use for His glory!!!
    1.     1 Cor. 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God and you are not your own. For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.  *We were bought at a high price!  He made the ultimate sacrifice for us physically and spiritually.

**Don’t abuse what God has made sacred.  This is why fornication is so bad, we are sinning against our own body, the very make up in which God created.              ***a good way to know if you are glorifying Him is ask yourself-If He were with me when I am doing _____ would He be pleased?

  1. When we look good, (financially, physically, attitude) God looks good! When we look good, our husband looks good!  I would hinder Jim’s calling by my pouting/ and being defeated by the devil.  My choice!
  2. 2 Tim 2:21 We are to be vessels of honor! Sanctified and useful for the Master!
  3. 1 Cor. 6:12-13  All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable….Read this. If you cant eat one cookie yet, stay away from cookies.  If you are tempted to stop at a bar, drive a different route home

  1. 3.  We must be teachable and willing to change. Get over ourselves!
    1.  Approach the Word like it is alive and that it can and will facilitate change.  When we are weary/feeling defeated-the Word is ENERGIZING!  If we want to be TRULY empowered, it must be by the Word LIVING inside of us!
      1. Hebrews 4:12  For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

b.  God will put people in your path to help you.  God gave me an example of balanced eating/training in my husband.  Though Jim did not share my struggles, he had answers I needed which he lovingly encouraged me walk in.  I had to get over being offended and not resent the fact that he didn’t have my problems.  Don’t despise others that could be a help to you. Embrace the positive qualities in others and your spouse.  Get over that “I hate her b/c she is skinny or rich or whatever” attitude.!  Or you won’t get there yourself!

  1. We must spend time with Him diligently!  In His Word, in prayer, and listening.
    1. Proverbs 3:7  Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.  It will be health to your flesh and strength to your bones.
    2. Proverbs 4:20-22  My son, give attention to my words; in cline your ear to my sayings.  Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are LIFE to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.
    3. Lastly, the Word says, “My sheep hear my voice, and another they will not follow.  Learn to HEAR and RESPOND to HIS voice! How do we know?  It will line up with the Word of God.  It will Not say, you are a fat nobody.  It will say, you are the righteousness child of the most High God, equipped to do mighty works for the kingdom of God!

  1. We must be obedient and do not doubt.

  1. James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

  1. James 1:7-8  For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, he is a double minded man, unstable in all his ways.

  1. 2 Peter 1:3-4    as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

**He has GIVEN us great and precious promises!!  Don’t let the flesh hinder us from being partakers of the devine nature!!
