Communion                                                                                                                                                               Pastor Dean Melton-FCC Charlotte, NC

We have gotten away from what Communion is all about. Communion is your relationship with Jesus. That’s all Communion is. Communion is how much and how you feel towards God. God has taken all of your sickness and sins away. People go to churches and think that the only person that can give Communion is the Priest/Pastor. The Bible says, you should take Communion as often as you want to do it. Some of you should be taking Communion when you are at your house. You should take communion with your husband or wife or with your children.

With Communion many people think you have to use certain breads and juices. Some people believe you have to use kosher wine. They believe if you are not drinking what Jesus drank than you are not taking Communion. Some believe you have to use Welch juice and if you are not than you are not taking Communion. God doesn’t care what you use for it is not the ingredients that you use, it’s the heart that God looks at. You can use Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Kroger Bi-lo, Wal-Mart bread and get healed. You can use Pepsi Cola, Coca Cola; it’s not what’s in the cup but what’s in your heart towards God. That’s what keeps you healthy, that’s what keeps you blessed.

1 Corinthians 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

This was the most difficult time in Jesus’ life. He was sitting there with his friends, his apostles; the people that were going to carry on his ministry. God told me in 2012 and I am telling you by the authority of God’s word, when it looks like it is impossible this year, don’t wait to Sunday morning to have Communion if it is Monday night go in your kitchen, you and your husband, you and your wife or you and your children and sit down and have Communion. It says at the most difficult hardest time in his life he took Communion. When things look difficult, take Communion. God told me to you, when things look like they are not going well this year, when things get a little tough, remember to sit down and have Communion with Him. He has already overcome. He’s already sitting on the throne. He’s our mediator. He’s our advocate. He’s our lawyer. He’s everything me and you want. Sit down with him and he will take you through your difficult time this year. No matter how bad things look in your life God can turn it around but if you sit around and wallow in self pity nothing good is going to come out of that.

1 Corinthians 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

When you are going through difficult times in your life give thanks unto God. Jesus said every time you take Communion, don’t look at yourself, quite judging yourself, quite sitting in church and letting the Communion meal pass you by because the preaches tells you “if you got unrepented sin in your life you are not to take communion, if you got aught in your life don’t take communion, if you got problems in your life, don’t take it and if you do let me tell you what God is going to do to yall. Some of yall are going to get sick, some of yall are going to get sickly, and some of yall are going to die”. We take everything totally out of context. Jesus said when you take Communion it is not about you, it’s about Him. Do this in remembrance of what I have done for you. You don’t have to take it on the first Sunday of the month, you can take it at your house, and you can take it at work.

1 Corinthians 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

Smith Wigglesworth took Communion on a continuous basis. He was always taking Communion. He was always in Communion with his God, that’s the reason he could raise so many people from the dead. Jesus said when you drink this cup you do it in remembrance of me. When you take Communion and you drink that juice, remember what Jesus has done for you, he just didn’t heal your body; he has forgiven you of all your sins.

1 Corinthians 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

Communion is your relationship with Jesus. Every time you do this you show the world that you are a believer in Jesus, not Buddha, Hare Krishna, not Mohammed but Jesus is your Lord.

1 Corinthians 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

When you look at the cup and the bread and you say, “Jesus really didn’t take all of my sins” you’re disrespecting his body and his blood. Have you ever had anybody say, “well I know I got this disease, I know the Lord will heal me one day but this is just my cross I am having to bear”. Can you imagine what you are saying to all mighty God himself? “God you healed everybody, you took everybody’s sin, you took everybody’s sickness but you are leaving me with this cancer, with this high blood pressure or this heart problem. You have taken everybody’s sickness away but you did not take mine.” Can you imagine talking to God like that? There are people who do that everyday of their lives. You'll say things like “yea but you know some of us just have to suffer; this is just our cross to bear”. Folks, he bore the cross for you, you’re not to bear the cross. God never intended for people to be sick or to be sin conscience. He wants us to be free from sin and to be healthy.

1 Corinthians 11:28-30 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

Unworthy towards what? It is towards Jesus, not towards us. When you don’t discern the Lord's body. You don’t look at Jesus the way you are suppose to look at him. Many people don’t take Communion because they feel condemned, however can you imagine God in heaven looking down and you think you are unworthy because you got some sin in your life that you think he hasn’t forgiven you of. Can you imagine Jesus looking at God saying God do they not know that I have forgiven them of everything they have done wrong. When taking Communion, you’re not eating or drinking damnation to your life but deliverance to your life.
